Early E3 2019 Predictions

Before you buy that Gamer Badge, you should consider these E3 2019 predictions. We already know that gamers will receive reduced hours (E3expo.com). So unless you are super excited about these games, you should hang onto your money for either E3 2020 or a next-gen console.

Sony

Sony has completely pulled out of E3 for 2019 (Kotaku.com), which leaves us without several PS4 exclusives: Death Stranding, Last of Us 2, Bloodborne 2, and Ghosts of Tsushima. Additionally, we will not see any new announcements, not even a PS5 announcement.

Microsoft

Without Sony stealing all the attention, Microsoft has an opportunity to win over the gaming community. Last year, Microsoft actually invited gamers to their press conference. Plus, Microsoft did not have any “industry only” hours for their E3 show floor. (Gamespot.com). If Microsoft continues this gamer-focused trend for E3 2019, they may win over some disenfranchised PlayStation fans – if only for just 2019.

So what can we expect from Microsoft this year? For one, they need to show off some of those indie developers they bought up last year (IGN.com). Plus, we should expect  something for Halo Infinite, especially with the Halo roadshow coming up (Variety.com). Microsoft is likely to show off other exclusives like Gears of War 5, Age of Empires VI, and other indie or 3rd party titles (Windowscentral.com).  If Dying Light 2 does not release before E3, it may be playable on Microsoft’s show floor (PCGamer.com). Other games we may see from Microsoft include a Battletoads remake (VG247.com), Tunic (Polygon.com), and Journey to the Savage Planet (Gamereactor.eu).

Nintendo

Nintendo is rumored to release up to 12 titles this year (Comicbook.com), and we may see those at E3. We are still waiting on some Nintendo games that may return; those include Daemon X Machina (Nintendo.com) and Ninjala (Ninjalathegame.com). We may even see a Dr Mario Word mobile game (Nintendo.co.jp). Unfortunately, we probably will not see Metroid 4 (Forbes.com). Plus, we have some games mentioned in various interviews and press briefings, but no announcements or demos; those include Bayonetta 3, Shin Megami Tensei 5, and Resident Evil.

Bethesda

Gamers are not pleased with Bethesda after Fallout 76 had multiple failures (Polygon.com). So the pressure is on for a solid E3 showing. We are likely to see something for Elder Scrolls 6 (Miamimorningstar.com) and Starfield (VGR.com). As a recurring staple of the Bethesda booth, we will also see an Elder Scrolls Online expansion. Wolfenstein II: Youngblood may be on the show floor this year.  And maybe, we will get a Wolfenstein III announced (Metro.co.uk). Plus, we are still waiting on Doom Eternal (Gamespot.com). Dishonored 3 is unlikely (Gamesradar.com).

Square Enix

We have no news on a Neir: Automata sequel, but we are still expecting some games from Square Enix. We are likely to see something on the Final Fantasy VII remake, the Avengers Project, and Babylon’s Fall (AndroidCentral.com).

Activision

With losing Destiny, Activision is in a bad place right now. We should expect Activision to remind us about how successful Call of Duty has been, possibly with a new game announcement (Forbes.com). We may still see something related to Destiny since Activision could still provide distribution and marketing services to Bungie. Otherwise, we may see Activision team up with 3rd party developers.

2K Games

2K Games may have a booth to show off their upcoming games – The Other Worlds (Gamesradar.com) and Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey (Steampowered.com). Plus, 2K Games is expected to announce a “highly anticipated game” which could be a BioShock sequel or Borderlands 3 (Gamerant.com, VG247.com) .

Ubisoft

We are still waiting for two games from Ubisoft: Skull & Bones (mxdwn.com) and Beyond Good and Evil 2 (Variety.com). We may see those on the show floor. Also, Rainbow Six Siege may be on the show floor again too as it undergoes continual updates (WindowsCentral.com). Assassin’s Creed Odyssey may also return as it receive more DLCs (Eurogamer.net). But hopefully Ubisoft does not just repeat 2018; we have rumors of a new Splinter Cell (Sportskeeda.com) and Watch Dogs 3 (Comicbook.com). Meanwhile, we should not expect to hear anything for Far Cry 6 or Avatar (Gamespot.com).

Epic

We will likely see Epic return with Fortnite. Plus, Epic will probably want to show off its exclusive (Techradar.com).

EA Play (No E3 Ticket Required)

EA’s future is looking better, but it still has some PR work to do. We can expect to see Jedi: Fallen Order (TheVerge.com) and Dragon Age 4 (PCGamesn.com). We are still waiting on Sea of Solitude (ShackNews.com). Meanwhile, we should see something for Anthem and Titanfall.  Oh, and sports games that no one will care about.

Other Games to Track

Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be somewhere at E3 2019, but no indication if gamers will get to play it (Engadget.com).

Without Activision or Playstation, we may not see anything Destiny related. However, Bungie could still team up with Microsoft or Nvida.  Or, they could form a better relationship with Activision. If Bungie does find a foothold in E3 2019, we may see an announcement for Destiny 3 (Gamespot.com).

We have a few games announced at the Game Awards which still have not been released. We can only hope that they make an appearance at E3. Those games are Among Trees (PCGamer.com), Scavengers (ScavengersGame.com), The Last Campfire (SteamPowered.com), The Pathless (VentureBeat.com), and Psychonauts 2 (Psychonauts.com).

Other games that have been named-dropped in press conferences, but still not released, include: Twin Mirror (DenOfGeek.com), Control (RemedyGames.com), Mavericks (Mavericks.gg), Maneater (ManeaterGame.com), Sable (Sshed-Works.co.uk), and Payday 3 (TweakTown.com).

By the way, Google and Amazon are planning video game streaming services. However, neither is thus far participating in E3 2019.
